
Interlibrary Loan
Information for Patrons
Residents of Virginia and particularly the Richmond area may ask the Interlibrary Loan Department to request, from another library, materials not owned by the Library of Virginia. There is no cost for this service other than what some lending libraries may charge to fill the request. Libraries that do not charge are contacted first. You must visit the Library for this service. You may fill out the printable pdf or submit a request online. Please submit a request one of these ways before you visit the library.
Please note: The borrowing form is only for use by individuals who want the Library of Virginia to obtain an item for them from another library. It is not for use by individuals or libraries wishing to borrow items from the Library of Virginia. All materials borrowed from other libraries must be picked up at, and returned to, the Library of Virginia.Information for Libraries
Libraries may submit requests for loans or photocopies via OCLC or on an ALA form mailed or faxed to (804) 692-3537.
Books and Microfilm
Microfilm and microfiche are circulated through ILL only.
All loans are for 28 days. All materials except overdue items and archival microfilm (county records, vital statistics, etc.) may be renewed one time for an additional 28 days.
There is a 5 volume or 5 reel limit per patron.
There are no charges for loans.
Photocopies
There are no charges to Virginia libraries for copies.
Charges for out-of-state photocopies are as follows:
$10.00 for the first 1-10 pages; $.50/page thereafter.
$10.00 for the first 1-5 pages from microfilm or microfiche; $1.00/page thereafter
$2.00/page from Special Collections materials if copying is possible.
