Localities & State Agencies Library Services and Resources
The Library of Virginia is the library at the seat of Virginia government and serves the work-related information needs of the members of the General Assembly, state employees, and state agency libraries.
To accomplish this goal the library offers a wide range of services which include research assistance, access to a variety of online resources and workshops that teach research skills. The Library also provides expanded research services for Virginia's state legislators.
The Library offers access to numerous in-house databases. One of the most popular is NewsBank's America's Newspapers which offers current and archived editions of more than 600 local, regional, and national newspapers - all utilizing one easy-to-use search interface. Free remote access to Newsbank is available for state officials, legislators, and state agency employees.
Reference Services staff members are available to provide demonstrations of Newsbank or any of our other in-house or remote databases.
The Library also provides consultation regarding the organization and maintenance of state agency libraries and research centers. A directory of Virginia state agency libraries and resource centers is maintained by the Library to facilitate resource sharing within state government.
We welcome your inquiries and look forward to serving you.
